Oliver and Sheba
ADOPTED 6-3-07!!! Oliver and Sheba have been at the Watsonville Animal Shelter for a very long time. Nobody would adopt them because they needed dental work done due to neglect. The Friends of the Watsonville Animal Shelter (www.FOWAS.org) paid over $800 for them to receive extensive dental work and 30 teeth were pulled between them. Oliver is now toothless but he is fatter than Sheba and still enjoys his dry food. He is so much happier now that he is not in pain. Both of these kitties are 7-10 years old and are having a tough time at the shelter. They barely get noticed now that kittens are available. Can you provide them a home? www.fowas.org

He quit this position after the play was picked up for Broadway, and moved to the big city. "I've always been glad that I grew up in Independence, because I feel it gave me a knowledge of people and a love of people. I've often wondered how people raised in our great cities ever develop any knowledge of humankind. People who grow up in small towns get to know each other so much more closely than they do in cities. Independence I'll always remember as a beautiful little town with enormous shady trees and lots of fine spacious homes. I'll always remember the celebrations of Halloween and the city park there with its winding drive around the sad old Verdigris River. Henry III, wrote in "Time" magazine (Monday, Jul. 23, 1984): When Come Back, Little Sheba opened on Broadway in 1950, critics hailed its author, William Inge, as an authentic voice of the plain people west of the Mississippi. He burnished his reputation for passionate simplicity with Picnic (winner of a 1953 Pulitzer Prize), Bus Stop (1955) and The Dark at the Top of the Stairs (1957). Never a master of plot or construction, Inge was incomparably tender, a poet laureate of adolescent sexuality and middle-aged longing. An honored place in theater history seemed assured. Then all went sour. Flop followed flop; drink and depression overtook him. When he committed suicide in 1973, the New York Times obituary appraised him as a man who had "lost his gift." The collection was inspired by the legends of the Queen of Sheba. 'I was inspired by the idea that she was so young -- a teenager -- when she came to the throne,' he says, 'and that she wielded so much power not only over her own kingdom, but over King Solomon, seducing him physically and mentally with her formidable arsenal of feminine charm. I imagine her as being considerably resourceful, and I wanted the collection to emphasise the importance of having both inner and outer beauty.' 'These themes are reflected in the collection through the use of natural materials and natural colours and through designs which are sexy, feminine, enticing, but not vulgar. Some of the forms are totemic, with great drama when shown in silhouette. The designs are also very powerful -- they make the wearer feel, and look, confident and somehow regal. This effect is partly achieved through intricate, laborious craftsmanship -- we have hand beaded the clothes, embroidering some 25,000 fine cut crystals onto the surface.' A fresh and vibrant cream, white and green colour scheme predominates, carved into dramatic, form-fitting lines. The entire collection is made with natural materials, with liberal use of fox, Mongolian wool, gabardine, and flannel. Decorative elements used are fine cut and hand beaded crystals, intricate hand crochet, and porcupine needles.
